When we gather to together on Sunday, we have structured times designed for education and discipleship before we worship. Sometimes we study a book by a Christian author, dig into current issues from a biblical perspective or work through a part of the Bible. While the format for this time varies, the goal is always to build relationships centered on the truth.

Every Sunday morning we meet for a time of corporate prayer. It’s not the only time of the week believers from Emmanuel gather for prayer, but it is the most important time. It’s a time to be intentional about our commitment to pray for one another by entering into each other’s joys and sorrows while obeying Jesus’ command to “watch and pray.” But it’s not just a time for requests and expressions of thanksgiving. Our corporate prayer is also a time to adore God and confess our sins as his people. For one hour every week we add our voices the disciples’ of the first century and cry, “Lord, teach us to pray” (Luke. 11:1 ESV).

Gathering together for corporate worship every Sunday is the highlight of our week at Emmanuel. It is the exclamation point to the worship overflowing from our hearts all week long. It celebrates the work of Jesus Christ. Our worship always includes times of singing, which help us express our praise to God, encourage each other, and to confess our faith with God's people past and present. Our worship also includes the public reading of Scripture and personal and public prayer, which helps us to confess our sin and to declare his greatness. Finally, our worship culminates with the preaching of God's Word, our supreme standard for faith and practice.
