Fall 2019 Family Bible Time, Adult Classes

Beginning September 8, we will offer 2 different Adult Bible Time classes. Each class will run for approximately 10 weeks. Each class begins at 9:15 am. We will offer these classes again in the spring, so whichever one you choose for the fall, you can enjoy the other class this coming spring.

One-to-One will cover beginning and intermediate principles for sound, effective bible study. Pastor Brad Baugham and Jared Garcia will lead this interactive class.

Gospel Community will apply the Gospel to community, discipleship, and the often-difficult road to living in community. Each week, a different Shepherding Group leader will present and lead the discussion.

(See below for further class details.)

Books will be available for purchase beginning this week. Please pay Cindy Pyle $5 for your book (this is a subsidized price).

Please make your plans to join us in a few weeks for our fall Adult Bible Class!

Class 1: Reading the Bible: One-to-One

Know. Grow. Go.

Can you think of people in your life that you would like to see progress spiritually—perhaps a non-Christian colleague, or a Christian friend at church, or a family member? What holds them back? Is there a way to help them understand more of God in a way that is simple and personal, and that doesn't rely on getting them to a church program or event?

All this is possible through One-to-One Bible Reading.

But, what is One-to-One Bible Reading? To put it succinctly, it is a variation on that most central Christian activity—reading the Bible—but done in the context of reading with someone. It is something a Christian does with another person, on a regular basis, for a mutually agreed upon length of time, with the intention of reading through and discussing a book or part of a book of the Bible. It is effective for evangelism. It is useful for discipleship. It is even helpful for training. But mostly...It is strikingly simple.

Class 2: Gospel-Centered Community

Grow Authentic, Gospel-Shaped Community

“We don’t want to be alone. We want to love and be loved; and we know that genuine relationships make our lives rich. But somehow living in community always ends up being harder than we thought. This ten-lesson study helps participants learn how the Spirit shapes diverse people into a Christ-centered community that reflects Jesus to a watching world.”

— from the Gospel-Centered Community: Robert Thune and Will Walker

Family Bible Time Continues

Family Bible Time: 9:15 am.

  • Adults will be together in the auditorium as we consider the question "Have the findings of science altered how we should read Genesis 1 and 2?" In the past decade there has been a resurgence of theistic evolution in the evangelical church. Adherents claim that a scientifically informed reading of Genesis 1-2 shows God using evolution to create all life including humans. Join us for FBT where we will consider these claims in a new 10-week series.

  • The Young Adult Class (7th-12th grades) this spring will focus on the gospel—how it is the basis of a Christian's relationship with Christ, the ground of a Christian's identity and the motivation for pursuing a relationship with Christ through reading the Bible and prayer.

  • This will also be the main teaching time for children.

Our regular schedule from March 17th to March 31st:

9:15 am — Family Bible Time

10:00 — Corporate Prayer

10:45 am — Corporate Worship

**All Services Cancelled on 12/9 Due to Weather

Announcement from Pastor Brad

All services are cancelled today.

I would encourage all to rest in the Lord, not in Netflix, Facebook, or Football. There are over 50 references to snow on the Bible. Explore 10 of them today with friends and family. Here are three to start your meditation:

Snow Reminds Us of His Power to Shut Down a Whole City to Give Us Rest

For he saith to the snow, Be thou [on] the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength. Job 37:6

Snow Reminds Us What God has Done for Us In Christ

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. Is 1:18

Snow Reminds Us of Christ’s Own Appearance at this Moment

The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. - Revelation 1:14-15

Rest well. Enjoy His Peace on this Second Sunday of Advent. He reigns. And all is well.

Pastor Brad

One Voice

"One Voice: A Black History Narrative" is a journey through the African American experience by virtue of eight powerful voices. JDew portrays six of the characters spanning from the 1820s through present day. Characters include Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Frederick Douglass, and Barack Obama. Although many know of the impact these figures have had in American history, few have seen their works performed up-close-and-personal.
